Holy wow, exhaust via fire hydrant...

Are you altering the exhaust all the way back?

Will the muffler you have now be too constrictive?

Your project has really come a long way!

This place needs a like button. That turbo makes mine feel insufficient.

ha, valid questions.

I do plan to mate the 4" dp with my existing 3" exhaust for normal daily duties. 3" straight thru (so not really a restrictive muffler) should be pretty capable of making PLENTY of power. If need be, I'll make a cutout in the fender or just dump it straight to the ground to make max power. I don't really see the need to have 4" all the way back in the 200. Its almost impossible with the amount of ground clearance I want/need at the ride height I like. I did want 4" just in case I end up needing it in the future though.

Thanks for the comments!

so...

It turns out Bilstein screwed up again (I think). I finally got back home today to work on the Audi. First on the list of things to do was to get her on all fours again. Opened up my box of brand new "shortened" and revalved bilsteins for the Audi and rebuilds for my dad's 328. I looked at the Bilsteins and thought, "Wow! I can't even tell they shortened these. What a great job!"

Image

I then went out to drop them in my un-shortened strut housings, but first I dropped my nicely made spacer in the the housing so I could run the housings un-shortened until I get time to take them off and cut/weld. Then it was time to put the strut in and go merrily on my way to getting the car back together. Too bad the strut was sticking exactly 1.5" up too high for the nut hold it in the strut housing.

Apparently Bilstein shortened some other part of the strut. Maybe I don't understand what shortening the strut body means... can someone enlighten me?

Roughly 14" from top of the body to bottom.

Image

8" from top of body to top of strut.

Image

Can anyone compare these to stock ones? I'm thinking the "piston" part is the part that got shortened. I think this makes my suspension travel even worse  Please confirm or deny my suspicion. If this is confirmed, I am going to contact bilstein and ask for a refund. If they deny me a refund, I will just have to tell them I will never buy Bilstein again and will steer everyone I know away from them.

I had to take the freakin strut housing off to get the spacer out of it. Turned a 20 min job putting the suspension back on into a 2 hour job :curses:

On another note, I'm just glad to have the car back on all-fours for now. I can focus on getting the new turbo/manifold/dp in tomorrow and hopefully get it started! Here is how she sits now

If i am not mistaken they do shorten the strut tube. Or did they confirm with you that they were going to shorten the body?

They are inverted, I'm guessing they consider the yellow end the piston and the silver end the body. Sucks if that is what happened.

Should I have more than one?

Bad news, the oil line I brought home was a bit bigger than -10 :frustrated: the quest has now evolved into jacking some -10 from one of my friends.
