This is the only "good" pic I have for now. Not good in terms of photo quality, just good in terms of it having all of my parts present and in OK lighting. Mind you, everything is very rough and thats why there are lots of zip-ties. I just needed it running and able to drive down the street basically.

Did you end up doing a clutch or the 01E yet?

No :(

The 01e was taking way too long and I just needed the car running, so I made a trade with Hank.

...yes :hide:

and that is probably a good thing because I'm thinking a twin disc might be needed. Either that or maybe I can get away with the best of what southbend has to offer in a single. BTW, the first page has been updated with new goals and rough project outline from here.

Please, lease, please make a vid of the first time you hit full HX52 boost with that clutch/trans combo.

i think the 3b clutch would melt long before the trans explodes. That spool down sounds just like a semi with a straight pipe!

ha, I will definitely take videos with the car when its all plumbed, but still on stock clutch. It will just melt it; the h1c was starting to towards the end. There is a vid of me running with nick's 200 where I shift into third and the thing just bangs the rev limiter as soon as I put it in gear. It was fine as long as I granny shifted though.

Chris, its about that time.

Hydraulic tilton throw out bearing, upgraded clutch, check the trans and diff (a good look over).

I agree with the twin disc clutch, I am under the impression that you like to "drive" this car. There is a general formula that at this point I assume your familiar with. The more power you make the more expensive it is to manage the power where the vehicle remains "drivable".

That 016 is the weak point as you know. So all of this ^ would be a waste of cheddar with the power you are going to be making (torque). When you have the current stage tuned, it will surely be making more than the trans can handle. When or if something goes wrong it will look sort of like this (Bumblebee reps torque and hp, Ravage reps 016):

Keep the tune down and thrown in a stage "something" clutch in for the mean time. It appears I need to take a trip down to FL :drive:

Southbend's stage 5 (or whatever they call their best OE-fitment clutch) with the highest clamping PP is pretty nasty. There's almost no modulation, it's an on/off switch. I think they claim 600+ ft/lbs, and their numbers are usually pretty conservative... I have a stage 4 in my car, so we will see how that holds up with the new setup. Might be twin disc time.

Yes Corey, I'm pretty familiar with that formula! I am definitely not worried too much about drive-ability. This is no longer my daily. This is for me to drive when I just feel like DRIVING. Its for those times when I actually want the clutch to be nearly impossible to get right from a stop, for my brain to be rattled out, my eyes to be sucked into the back of skull when I press the loud pedal, and the skin melted off of my face when I go around corners. This is meant to be a brutal machine... maybe somewhat reminiscent of an IMSA car. For some reason, its fun to have a car that noone else really knows how to drive well unless they spend hours in it. Its the little quirks that only I know how to handle properly that help make a car fun to me.

I refuse to waste my money on an insufficient clutch. That is, I wont buy one for the 016 because I know its just a major waste of cash. Its go big or go home for this car right now!

Ed, I spoke to SB a long time ago about an 850 ft*lb full-faced, single disk clutch. They seemed pretty confident. Same clutch used on the turbo E46 M3's (assume HPF setups or similar). I will definitely be interested in hearing what they have to say about this now.

One of the big issues to think about now is who wants to build my 11,000 RPM block/head? I know of a few decent places I could go for this... sucks that only a few people know how to properly balance one of these engines.

The stage 5 full face clutch held up 520wtq on my URQ without a hickup ever. The new engine has made a couple of WOT slips that make me nervous, but that is with a 6 puck. I am going to give it a few more break in miles(at about 500miles at this point) before I write it off.

IDK what the budget is.... these guys know a thing or two about building 5 cylinder Audi blocks. They do not list as much of it on there site anymore, they have there roots in building 5 cyl race motors. That said they do own an "IMSA" and Trans Am Audi, along with others.

Eurospec:
http://eurospecsport.com/index.htm

Go big or go home you say hmmmmm. 1000chp is the goal? Then there is only one trans combo for the executive sedan.

Here is how I would go about it.
This is the trans part # "01E 300 048 D" and matching rear diff Part # "01R 500 044 F". The FD is 3.89.
Then you will need one of the Tilton 3-Plate clutch's and one of there hydraulic throwout bearings.
Go ahead and add weight to the shift linkage (if you like that sort of shift feel)
Blitzcat short shift
Stiff trans mounts and rear diff mounts.
From what I have learned this trans listed above has a built in oil pump.
And go for a trans cooler just b/c. Your in FL, it does not hurt

I picked up one of these with a steel flywheel for my current build. I got it because I wanted a bit of head room for a billet 30r...I wasn't even considering an hx52 or a 42r. 800ftlbs sounds like it would be pushing this a bit..

I've got an 01e in the urs (clearly) but these are advertised as working with the 01a as well...dunno if the same setup will work with both, or if there's a different kit for each trans but it would be worth a call to find out.

Good luck getting a single plate to hold.
