It's gonna look similar but instead of flat, it's gonna be more satin finish.
The car is gonna look it's made of plastic 8)

so i am ditching all help for the brakes. just like on the rabbit, just a master cylinder. no bomb, no hydro assist, no booster. nothing. nada. zip.
see, the aftermarket companies make pedal and MC stuff, kits, with no booster, hydro, etc. the car still stops fine, just a little more effort has to be put into the pedal.... and its fine, because it is only going straight.
so i pulled the pedal cluster. much easier on this car than the rabbit, that one kicked my ass but good. also something about working on a car with a cage i seem to remember
so pull pedal cluster.
remove hydro assist part.
remove bracket.
measure it up.
make a plate to mount the MC to the bracket.
drill for MC.
weld backup nuts onto the plate.
weld plate to bracket.
many test fits in between, BTW.
measure up for rod, find out the other rod from the rabbit is too short. find something.
today, while at the wreckers looking for a bracket to do this mod with, i found many OEM bolts. one happened to be an 02A starter bolt. hmmmm, whadya know, same thread pattern as the plunger rod. and the required distance longer
cut bolt head off, test fit/measure up.
make a jam-nut for the MC, weld it to new rod.
install rod into clevis for pedal, and adjust.
VIOLA!!!!! manual brakes in under 1.5 hrs.
and i even got me a replacement for the broken pedal i did when building the tunnel. $5 bucks plus $1 entry.

i have progress pix, but the paint is drying on the bracket i made, so i will post up a picture later of it all installed. gotta love making room under there
and i made a thread about this mod in the Brakes forum, so if someone (like me awhile ago) was searching info on manual brakes, it would be easy for them to find it.

and the finished product. MMmmmmmmm. look at all the space in there. lets see. Fuelab FPR. Wilwood rear brake proportioning valve. possibly the custom radiator overflow bottle.

Nice Aaron...sounds like a couple of hours well spent. I thought you said awhile back that the coupe was being put away to concentrate on the rabbit. If this is the kind of work that gets done when it's not even priority I'm impressed......and feeling a bit lazy!!

haha. well, yesterday we had a couple hours of planning session. now all the manifold, AWIC, valve cover, fuel cell, catch can is in development.
i kept the car at home for the day as the welder is here, etc. in case we wanted to tack/try things. but alas, we did not do anything of the sort. and today too lazy to do the swap arounds... plus it started snowing while i was browsing at the wrecking yard. been sooooo long since i went "grazing" i did not even know that there was a B5 A4 v6, a v6 100 auto, and a 90Q there, among others. i saw at least 3 01A trans'd cars, i can tell by the shifter now. the 90 yielded me the gas pedal i broke, and some motor to trans bolts i did not have as well.
i also welded the crap out of the steering linkage that i had to "make" work together, from the manual rack swap.
the rabbit has ~5 hours or so to make track ready for what i WANT (trans swap, wire in the new WB02, harness). for what it NEEDS is <30 minutes (lace the new harness in).

i forgot... i did the D-bars as well this past weekend... how silly of me to let that slip.
finish one or two welds, and the cage is complete minus door bars. they will NOT go in until the car is wired, and most things internally are complete. i have BTDT with build a full cage THEN doing stuff inside. it plain sucks.
thats the cool thing about doing the same type of project more than once. you learn from your previous mistakes. well at least you learn OF them, may not end up learning FROM them. the door bars: learned lesson. oh yeah.

man, thats what I thought too....I was even a bit bummed since I thought I wouldn't be getting my daily dose of sweet fabrication and ingenuity...
very impressive work, especially for after work....or are you still on vacation :wink:

and to think what kind of condition it would be in if i had been home the whole time...
slicks are here, they are temporarily on, and they look BADASS. period. the front is about 1/2" from the bottom of the coilover, i think it turned out ok. it will lift anyhow. the rear is alot lower, and i will raise it up a little bit to run them. the tire does crown and grow on hard acceleration. and i plan on a bit of that i do....

I was considering chopping the frame rails on my URQ till I saw this today.. Look at the regulations. You cant do this time attack with tubed front ends.. Is that fairly common for time attack cars?

yeah, that does kinda suck for those of you'ns that are into that. what i can say maybe to that is just leave the frame horns and cut out from the strut to the front end, leaving the actual frame "rail"? then tube from strut tower to that? sorrry Hank, i got no help there :(

Centerline Convo-Pro....
and Chris (loxxrider) did it up with my paint color. and it looks REAL GOOD. i like the rivets shown polished. it looks almost good enough to actually spend the time/$$$ to have done.

Oh you know it looks more than good enough to spend the time and money on. 
This is making me want a coupe to go fast AND look good in. They just look so nice (yet aggressive) from all angles.

and not a really noticeable stagger... the rears are 8.5" wide and the fronts are 7.5" wide.... and its all in the lip.
