Guys, enough is enough. I think this has gotten out of hand.
Let 's bring this issue to a close and get on with what we really want:
Talking about kickass cars.

Im staying clean here 'cuz Im a customer and will always continue to be - but my input is: there was too little too late on the issue of commercial posts. There are many of us here that make items that are popular to MG's reader base as well as the Audi community in general. These aren't products that anyone at 034 should be threatened by, stickers, shirts, trinkets, and hoo-ha's. Big deal. Any one of us would have been delighted to get a call or a PM when it was time for 034 to start selling beanie hats... I got sick to my stomach when I saw those friggin things knowing I could have contributed back to 034's product line.

Honestly the only thing I take offense to in this whole discussion is Nate calling us 'product slinging freeloaders'. - I DONT KNOW ONE PERSON THAT'S EVER TRIED TO SELL SOMETHING IN A 'COMMERCIAL STYLE' POST THAT HASN'T SPENT MONEY AT 034 (or made money FOR 034). Since I and a few others stepped outside the bounds we are freeloaders? To be honest, that's almost enough to change my mind about being a customer - but I'll chalk it up to a critically poor choice of words from someone that felt they were being attacked.
The problem is you're speaking of a very utopian existence where people are all here to do good. We used to allow small commercial activities, we had a ton of members get burned and really pissed off by some of it. Sure, some worked ok, but it was a gamble, and something that wasn't needed on this forum to share information. It isn't here to start and foster new businesses, a successful business should thrive outside of this forum just fine. Again, none of this is about making money for 034, simply denying people taking advantage of the forum and it's audience for profit only, without contributions, and in some cases committing flat out fraud and crime to get the money rolling. If you don't remember any of this happening, that's nice for you, but it's certainly something we have had to deal with.

I even get a fair bit of heat from people getting screwed over in the swap meet with supposedly upstanding members here. As soon as money starts swapping hands everything gets trickier.

And you're misreading (or I mistyped) the freeloader bit, I'm not, and haven't, called anyone in this current discussion a product slinging freeloader, so simmer down. I was simply stating that once commercial activity is allowed those types are what start showing up, so there's a lot of policing that needs to be done. If/when those people screw over forum members, guess who gets the heat?
Exactly, it happened here, it will happen on PP. Knowing most people "involved" here, this is all pretty silly. Nate, keep up the good sense of humor regardless of if you were the one who put the rule in place, and thanks again for starting MG.

Really, I think the two forums just are targeting different audiences and groups. The main contributors of Motorgeek 2 weeks ago were 90% my customers and friends. They are excited about what I am doing, excited about my products and projects, and want to support me. What I did not like doing is having my customers post stuff in "their" project as it gave the appearance that I was shuffling the rules around to get exposure. They were posting their kickass parts without me telling them too, but it still smelled funny. Creating a new forum(initially on my own site, then to a neutral) was just a way to quit the tip toe on the forum. My customers and parts have for the most part have left motorgeek and it can once again be a 034 support group. If I need support on 034 parts, I will likely post here.

For me, I just spent WAY too much time on MG wading through all the noise to get to the content. The data base is big enough to get an answer for 99.9% of the questions. I was interested in was projects, and comparing clever ways of doing things, or adding clever ways of doing things to other projects. A fresh forum was very natural.

As I have said publicly on TheProjectPad, I am extremely grateful to Motorgeek. It shaped my life as much as I ( and a lot of other great people) shaped MG's life. But 034 is acting like MG has been a public service with no return. Dollar per hour's work spent, this website has been THE biggest cash cow on the 034 asset list, bar none. Server costs are fractions of pennies on the dollar. Just own up to it! It was BRILLIANT!!! You didn't have to advertise or push product because the community of fine supporters(me being one) did it for you! So yes, thank you Nate for starting Motorgeek. I'll wait for me thank-you card in the mail. ;)

People forget how tight of a community Motorgeek was in the beginning. People that joined later just have a hint of how much fun Motorgeek was in the beginning. I have the same feeling on the ProjectPad. I think it will be fun to see a more project oriented site. In the end, it will be a win-win for everyone. MG will lose the people that did not fully support 034 for whatever reason, but is that a bad thing for them?

And yes, I thought the Dramaridder name change was hilarious. He will never live down that name! I wish the name changer would step forward so I could give a internet *handshake* I don't think he was funneling users, more just giving people a heads up where his project went. I'd love to do the same, minus the 3 pages of bickering in this miserable place.

Just go to the forum you most relate with. It will all be okay!

For the record, I did think dramaridder was funny too :D but the images were definitely down the whole time the name dramaridder was up, so someone was definitely playing some games. It was funny, but malicious at the same time. As for the "funneling" I simply wanted to let people know where I was going since I will not be maintaining two threads. If I just stopped the thread without letting people know where they could follow it, I think that would really suck! I support the freedom to talk about whatever I/we want to talk about whenever we want to talk about it. That is why I and many others have made the move.

Nate, I apologize for any drama that may have happened in the past. I didn't intend for this to be dramatic. It's nothing personal either. I've never met you or anyone else who works at 034, so I don't know who makes what decisions, etc.

In the past, I was upset about parts or services that I felt were inadequate and when I or others were told not to talk about it, I got more upset. I didn't think it was being dramatic to be upset that I/we couldn't speak freely about these kinds of things. That may have started some drama and some admittedly slightly childish passive aggressiveness on my part, but there was a reason for the way I felt.

Again, sorry for the trouble, and I don't mean to preach business, (what do I know?) but in the future your level of professionalism and customer service will dictate your customer base. I'm sure the 5-cyl stuff makes up a small percentage of your business and it seems that it becomes more and more difficult to provide this as the business grows (good cust. relations), but you have to be feeling some of the losses you've had in the past year or so to businesses who run themselves in the manner more along the lines I'm talking about. There is a reason people are choosing to use VEMS over IIc, intake and exhaust manifolds from IMS, motor and trans mounts from IMS, etc. That's not drama, its just reality!

Visited the 200 20v Revver on Sunday... the stance is low in person, specially for 18's... Liked the custom driver side strut mount...

Come on now, gotta have pics! Corey H. got me some spy pics when he visited! :P

I'm pretty sure I had a dream about the lowness of this car last night or the night before. I was pleased :) LOL that driver's side strut mount is a little beat-looking now, but it was sort of a proof of concept. I'd like to have my latest design made, but I don't really want to spend the money to do it now, especially now that H's new strut tower things are out.

This might get confusing since there are two threads here. I'd like to make this one an archive and just keep posting in the new one unless someone has a better idea.

Marc did mention some pics of a dry sump tank mounted up... didn't see those yet :shame: :P
