Bravo.
I don't often like videos on YT, but proud to be the first (of hopefully many) to do so on your vid. The woman loved the vid too, now she's bugging me about lifting the #farmenwagen haha. Almost like she understands what I have had in mind this whole time!

The car didn't actually overheat, instead the new B4 Febi coolant tank (which took 4 months to get) swelled up and the cap stopped sealing. Ended up replacing it with an old junkyard B3 unit that (so far) seems to be working. This is the 3rd or 4th coolant tank I've put in this car. I don't get it. They have all had a similar issue of the threads deforming such that you can't actually tighten a cap onto them. I think I'm going to end up either building an aluminum one, or finding one from a modern application that fits. This is a silly problem to have.
Years ago when I still had my 7A I split a overflow tank. When I went to replace it, there was an update part number with Audi parts. 8A0-121-403A This one has worked well. I had some overheating problems when I first had my S8 motor in, and this tank has never been a problem. Just a thought. Might pay to get a real Audi part from the dealer.

Here I’ve been using b4 tanks because I thought the b3 ones were NLA! Looks like that PN is readily available, but for some reason doesn’t list Coupe Quattro in the application list. Feeling dumb.
Thank you Greg!

You are welcome.
I go by the dealer by me because they give me an employee discount. Maybe since I have been going to them since 1981.
They were the ones who found the update back in the early 2000s. It was actually a second update number. I kept the part number tag that came on the bottle. I thought it might come in handy one day. This was the day.
When I say I this tank was tested, I had water/steam flowing out around the cap, a couple of times. So tested.

This car kicks so much ass hahaha!
It was really weird being somewhere that when it snows... there aren't any plows to help and everything shuts down.
I've heard a few reports the new tanks are splitting (Febi/Meybe) - though they all seem to be during 'spirited' driving - haha.
Check the aux pump (off the head) to make sure this is still running too.
It's also worth checking your Master Cylinder /abs pump (If you have that) as the snow could have been creating even more heat under the hood. I had a sticking MC that melted a clutch line from how much heat it was making.
A few other folks have started using this - I guess it drops the temperatures pretty dramatically which may solve your problem. Haven't used it myself.

If all else fails you can also step down to a lower temp thermostat which can help.
btw - Nice sticker and placement

- Did you do spacecamp?

Hahahahaha hey thanks! it's pretty silly. I love it.
This was definitely a "spirited" driving event so that may have contributed. ABS is loooooong gone in this thing. I'll have to check out the aux. pump as you suggested.
As for water wetter, I've used it for year is race cars where ethylene glycol antifreeze is not allowed, but somehow it never occurred to me that it might actually work as a performance enhancing additive to coolant as the manufacturer intended. Ha! I may just have to give it a shot.
No space camp for me, just a nerd who likes aerospace stuff

It definitely doesn’t! You get a whole range too. Some guys almost seem offended when they see this old Audi out there playing on the trails as their jacked up 4x4s, some just seem confused by it, but most people grin & give a wave, snap a photo, or get really excited to see something so absurd. We’re all just here to have fun & play with our dumb toys after all.

Great pics and adventure! I had an early 90s Subaru with a salvage title and a smashed rear door. I used to fill it up with people and drive it up to the old spots where all the good old boys would be shooting guns and driving their big trucks over everything. We would pull up with long hair, playing reggae music and lots of smoke drifting out from the passenger compartment, most of the couldn’t even really process what had just happened. Knowing how to drive can make it possible to get a lower ground clearance vehicle pretty far out. Unfortunately all the places like it are shut down now, but I am glad that I got what I did and I’ll never forget the looks on their faces!

As most of you have already seen, I picked up a pair of UrQuattro rally cars from a true barn find here in WA so I'm making room for the new projects. It's time for someone else to take and enjoy this thing as much or more than I have.
The original Coupe Quattromog is now for sale here on Bring a Trailer!

I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of adventures the next owner takes this thing on, and with any luck I might even get to run some trails with the in the new Quattromog wagon

Final (?) update on this thread- Coupe Quattromog was sold on BAT and is now in Salt Lake City, UT. Looks like the new owners will use it the way it was intended, so that’s pretty awesome. Dave knows the buyer so hopefully he will update is from time to time with photos of it in action
