That will be kind of hard as she has seen 3 different turbos pass through the apt. plus she has been keeping a running tab on this project. She is hell bent on proving that I am spending way more on this project then I originaly said I would

You have a point, but I think I will keep it under my hat for the time being. Im not entirely sure of all the details yet. :P

Well, made the quick trip up to York to give Dave a hand on the Bandit. Despite feelings that more progress should have been made, I feel like we made a good dent in things. If nothing else maybe we eliminated/consolidated a few boxes ;) We got the cam in, timing set, accessories/covers/belts on, clocked polished K24 you can spot in the pics, pulled the AC lines/box and a few other things. This is going to be one badass car when it's done, that is for sure! I didn't get too many progress pics but did get a few as we were starting to wrap things up. Good day, glad I was free and got to make it up!

Not sure what you are talking about.

A want to give a huge thanks to Shawn for coming up to help get this thing back together some more. As he mentioned, a bunch of small stuff whent back together, and removed. We also figured out how to go about running the harnesses, and some other items.

Ah... Yes, I am a parts whore. The problem it I dont keep them very organized, so I keep having to look through a bunch of boxed to figure out where the parts are as they go on the car. :shame:

Yep, it should look familiar to you :P

After having to gring the living crap out of it to make it fit with the spacer, and a nice drill & tap for the sensor, it fits and should work out great. Not to mention the linkage setup. I only needed 1 rod, and the piece that bolted to the intake, but it moves smoothley, and should work perfectly after I make up the little piece to connect the throttle cable.

thanks again kuma!

The only problem is I live in the east coast. I was really hoping to have this ready for H2O, but I dont think that is going to happen. After I get hte MS insatlled, I need to get new tires, inspection, and alignment.

^^thats what I'm saying! Will your tires hold air for 24hrs? Then just take it to OC and fill em up everyday!

Holding air isn't the problem. The rears are completely bald and tore up. The alignment is so bad in the rear that I scrubbed off 5/32 of tread in about 500 miles.

And dont worry taco, soon enough.

With another huge thanks to Shawn, who has been helping to kick my ass into gear on this project, quite a bit more progress has been made.

On Sat morning, Shawn came up and after about an hour driving around the 200 to get the tune better, we set to work on the bandit, and got quite a bit put together. The K24 is installed! a lot easier to do out of the car, but wasnt too bad with no front end on, and no CIS in the way!
Image

We then set the radiator in, and got it bolted down and figured out a little wiring
Image

Last but certianly not least, we put the front end back together! The best part was after just bolting it all together, the hood just closed, no problems. Even better was when he pulled the release, it opened! no adjustment needed! :D
Image
Image

Now I do have a few questions for those who have done this. I tryed to install the 034 snub mount that I have for the car, and when it was on the snub bracket, I couldnt get the bolt holes to line up. they were way low, and offset. not to mention there is a second bracket that was installed behind the OEM bracket that I am not sure what it. with the 034 piece, I would not have been able to have that in there, because it was already a little too long with out it. It was pushing the cross brace out a little without it.

Question # 2, I have the downpipe in the location where it goes, but right now it is hitting the body, just where the bends down, and the subframe just before it turns back twards the rear of the car. This is a 5K downpipe, so I assumed I was going to have to make it fit, but is there anyone that can tell me what they did? I think I remember somone mentioning clearancing the body to make it fit, and then bending or extending the downward setion so it cleared the subframe. Can anyone post some pics of what they did to make this work?

Im sure there was somthing eles I wasnted to ask about, but cant think of it off hand. Maybe Shawn will remember and post it up.

Thanks again for following along

*slow chant* H20... H20... H20...

Happy to help Dave, she is really starting together! Working on this car has made me want a B3 really badly. I think driving my 200 was starting to make Dave regret letting me help, until I got the dwell dialed in and then I'm hoping it was a little more motivational ;)

Driving your 200 was fun, even with the massive missfire under full boost. One you got that part figured out, and the readjusted the fuel trims to match, that thing pulled like a train up all those nasty hills. Glad I could help get that figured out.

H20 I really dont think is in the cards this year. I may call My buddy George's sister and steel the A4 for the day and drive down. Kind of sucks that he took out the chipped ecu for when he was gone. Didnt want big sis racing it I guess

AngryTaco wrote:Yay!!! Hurry up and get that beast going!!

Working on it. Im waiting for a few people to pay me then I can have my MS unit delivered to Elaw. He is going to do the final assembly and modification to it so I can pretty much just wire it right in. Then a little down the road Im going to get the board to use the FW sensors and then go individual coils. But that down the road, as is E85.

small update. I am now the proud owner of a MS2 V3.0. I picked it up from a guy on vortex, and it should be on its way to eric(Elaw on MG) for final assembly and testing. The board is most done, just needs the I/O circuitry done. I am ok at soldering, but not good enough for somthing like this. I will hopefuly have that in hand ready to install in the next week or so. Then the fun of wiring it, and tuning it should be fun.

I am also in the process of looking for a UrQ down pipe. From what I have read, they are a slightly larger diameter, and should all but drop right in. Here is hoping I can get one at a good price. As you may have noticed, this car is mainly a budget build, with lots of good used, or second hand parts. I build what I can, and out source the rest. Some times its just better to find a good used part than taking time, energy, and funds to build somthing.

Eric now has the MS2 and is almost done assembly. Then comes the testing, and loading of the firm ware and base tune. He hopes to have it all ready and shipped on Monday!

I also located, and purchased a UrQuattro downpipe. It should be on its way!

And for a little change in plans, Shawn found me an identical set of 440cc injectors that he is running. With the short body, and extended fuel tip, they should be perfect for the 20vt EFI setup. His seems to do quite well with them, so keep your fingers crossed that mine will work out as well.

Thanks for reading.

Had a little time to kill last night at work, so I descided it was time to play with my own parts. :D

Lets start with what I picked up. My Ur Quattro down pipe. I didnt realize these were a 2.5" down pipes. Im quite happy with that 8-)
Image

I then put in in the blast tank, and cleaned up nearly 30 years of rust and corrotion. These are a stainless pipe, but the main housing that attaches to the turbo is only cast steel. So it had some minor pitting going on.
Image

I the figured I wasnt going to need the CO test pipe, to it got plugged and tig welded with 308L filler.
Image

I then put on a layer of 1500* silicone paint, and went to town with the exhaust wrap.
Image
Image

After I was happy with how it came out, it got another coat of the silicone paint to seal up the fiberglass. Then an hour in the oven at 400* to cure it all. The wrap now feels like a cast around the pipe!
Image
Image

All in all I am happy with how it came out. Being the first time I have ever tried to do this, I think it came out well.

Thanks for looking
