You have to pick the right stickers, though. Some slow it down, especially any sticker not Audi related.

For the first time in probably years, all windows are now operational! So although the V8 still feels lethargic, the extra wind makes it seem faster like a racecar. Or maybe the heat is just getting to me.
On that note, how fast should an ABH feel? I know this is a really dumb and impossible-to-answer question, but our V8 is a bit... underwhelming. It runs and drives great! But our 190hp minivan would probably beat it in a race. I have no reference frame for how quick it should be, but it really isn't anything to write home about. Maybe I'll take a vid and someone can chime in if something is missing?
On the bright side, this thing has been a rock-solid daily (for my brother now). Fires up every time, and the oil level hasn't changed noticeably in 2000 miles since the last change.

Put the hi-viz SCHOOL STUDENTS one in the back window and you're sure to beat that dad van

I recall not being thrilled by a chipped 32 valve but it sounded amazing when I wasn't stalling it while getting used to the aluminum FW

Hmmm... Good to know. But I bet a 5 (or 6???) speed would make this car so much better to drive! If I can find a 10-bolt flywheel, I may set those wheels in motion.
Nothing much to report, but we did clear up a bit of the rust issues. A minor fuel leak quickly turned into puddle-forming stream, so in the interest of not setting fire to the car, I replaced all three fuel lines with 5/16" NiCopp and flared the ends with my trusty bubble-flaring tool.
I don't have a tubing bender, but luckily fuel doesn't care how pretty it looks!

Thank goodness my parents put up with their garage getting stolen!

The things we do for our old rocket couches! Somehow it's worth it even if I can't explain why.
It'd be awesome if you put a manual trans in this car. It'd be perfect that way. Very nice combination I think.

good call with that fuel line material, that stuff is awesome. I have been using that on everything lately. I had some sitting in salt water for like 6 months and its still shiny.
And yes, a 5-speed swapped v8 is waaay more fun....

A V8 in manual mode selection should be pretty quick. I could burn you a chip if you're interested!
If it feels lethargic check your codes first though...

I love this tubing material! It's so easy to bend and work with without kinking. We used the same stuff (albeit smaller) for the brake lines as well.
I would love (read: LOVE) to swap this thing, but Audi made it a right old pain to find those 10-bolt flywheels. That's really the only holdup, because a shop closeby just started parting 2 200 20v's, which is disappointing, but I could get everything else I need.

I checked codes a little while back and have since resolved the issues, but I haven't taken a look in a while. It's been running very smoothly, and it sounds
awesome; it's just a bit on the slower side for a supposed 280hp. If I were to line up the V8 and my 200 (which theoretically makes similar power), the 200 would leave the V8 in the dust (Lol maybe I'll try it).
If everything checks out, though, I would
absolutely be interested in a chip. I'll shoot you a PM.

I'm hoping it was you that bought the Fidanza flywheel on here that sold yesterday
If not, TTV is making them:

If I had seen it, I totally would have!
Thanks for the link, though. I didn't realize they were even still made. I've asked for a quote, but I bet a new flywheel is a tad out of budget, haha. The preferable option would be a used OEM flywheel for use with an 016, in order to keep the cost as low as possible, but a 6 speed would be glorious, if there weren't such a price disparity.

You never know, I bought my fidanza new for $300 from someone who was going to use it and never did. Maybe someone still has one new in a box

A few weeks ago, I took a day trip up to northern Ohio to visit the fine folks at German Auto Pro's (who, by the way, have some sweet-ass cars!). What started as a small parts haul for the 200 very quickly turned into hours spent playing with their 200's and lusting over their factory 5-speed V8. We went out to eat, and by the time we got back, I had somehow been convinced to haul back ~500lbs of parts I didn't know I needed. Among those being an 016 from 200 20v!
And so it begins...

If you, uh, notice the big shiny part, a huge shoutout to Ben for helping me track down a brand new unobtanium Fidanza flywheel! Seriously, that takes a lot of headache out of just having this trans sitting out under the porch.
I've been looking into everything I need to collect to complete the swap. Luckily, others have forged the path already, but I'm definitely going to need access to a parts car. I know there's a shop parting two 20v's about an hour from me, and I'm hoping they can make me a package deal, because this going to be $$$ otherwise.
Stand-alone parts needed016 Transmission w/ 4.11 Final Drive
10-bolt Flywheel 200 Pressure Plate
200 Clutch Disc
016 Pilot Bearing 016 Throwout bearing x10 Longer flywheel/crank bolts
HPR Transmission mountsParts Car200 Transmission Tunnel
200 20v front axles
T44 Clutch/brake pedal asy
T44 Clutch master
T44 Clutch slave 016 Shift linkage
Transmission arms
200 20v Driveshaft (rear)
I've got parts in green. Yellow, I'll probably buy new, though I'd consider a good used one. For the clutch, I'm just going to order a stock 3B unit to keep the cost down. The rest I should be able to track down from a 200.
The only thing I still need to figure out is the transmission mounting arms. I know they are different on the V8, but from what I read, I should be to space out the 200 one ~1" to make them work. Unfortunately, I wasn't given those with the transmission, so I'll have to either find those, or genuine V8 5-speed parts.
That's it for now! Hopefully this won't been too drawn out of a process. If I can arrange everything, I'd like to try and get this done during fall break.

I have a whole 016 drive line.
Trans, rear end, and shifter/linkage
ill have to look at the shifter to see what kinda shape it is in

Excellent! I'll shoot you a PM.
Does anyone know if the parts that I listed as 20v specific are actually 20v specific? I pulled that from a post from MotorGeek, but I'm pretty sure the driveshaft and axles could be from any 200. In fact, I think the driveshaft could even be from a 5000.
There's a 20v 200 that just cropped up at a Pull-A-Part in Atlanta, which is 3 hours away. I figured, with Monday off school and all, I could score some parts for much cheaper than I'll get on the market

I used the V8q shaft and 5kq shaft in my 5kq-sourced 016 swapped V8q. That post is all on MG, somewhere. 200q20v axles are needed, they are longer like the V8q 5spd needs. I used my 5kq shifter parts, but a 200q tunnel to better match the V8q tunnel. However, I know someone who used an early 5k tunnel in his 5spd swap. I had access to a 200q tunnel (same car donated the axles thanks to Derek W.), so I used that.
The super short gearing plus Abt chip made my convert a load of fun. Plus I had a locker center.

Good info! I looked around for your thread, but I couldn't find it. Did you do anything with regards to balancing the driveshaft? As far as I understand, the two halves are balanced as an assembly. Or is that a case of the repair manuals making a bigger issue of something than it is?
On another note, I finally took a look at the intermittent cam sensor code I was getting (short to ground). The wiring checked out okay, so I figured I'd need a new sensor, but lo and behold, the connector on the distributor housing was broken in two. The pins were exposed and barely touching the dizzy housing. After a bit of JB Weld, the V8 finally makes the torque to justify the mileage!
So, it turns out we've been driving it in limp mode the entire time we've owned it. It's pretty fun now!

The shafts had balance weights on each section, and that car never ever had a driveline vibration when I owned it (and I don't think Garrett had any issues either, after he bought it from me).
