If you're going to use MR2 pump, I would suggest keeping it within the wheel base lines. It will help wih distribution but you don't want any weights really pass the wheelbase in either direction. Mine was in the trunk, and it was fine but it's not ideal. My next step was to move it underneath the car, under rear seat base. Would have to mount it very securely - it's not the lightest piece. I would also add simple in-line cooler. Summit has some in different lengths that can be easily attached under the car along one of the lines. In a street car, it would be too loud in the trunk, IMO. Granted you have a tank and back seat as isolators, but still, I'd shy away from mounting it inside. As Jimmy said, a toggle switch is a must for when you need ignition on but car is not running - it woud kill a battery fast. Other than that, it's a very reliable system IMO. I had zero issues with mine, aside from occasional fluid boil - I didn't have that cooler installed yet.
Mercedes A klass is a much nicer/smaller piece but very expensive, and obviously harder to source in the states. Mini Cooper used them too but they had a lot of issues so I would stay away from those.

Polar moments are bad. 
I just hate pulling 75 amps ALL the time when the thing is on. That is a ton of current that is having to be generated by an alternator, even if you are going strait.

I always turned mine off on the highway. Elsewhere, it ran 100%. You could wire in the load reduction if you wanted, diagrams are out there, or have maybe 2-3 speeds setup.

Yeah, stay away from anything Mini! I don't think they pull 75 amps all the time, that is the worst case, under load trying to turn my 275's standing still.

Well I kinda like that controller. In theory you could adjust your level of assist as well as turn it all the way off if I am reading it correctly.

Technically its just a hydraulic engine mount. Cars have had them for a long time. Hank just has to go all-in when he builds something.
In reality that block takes the place of the original water-cooled oil cooler. This side of the engine block is lacking any significant engine mounting bosses due to it's orientation in the rest of the FWD cars. This is serving two purposes, it's providing much needed mounting points for the engine mount itself as well as remote mounting the oil cooler and filter somewhere in all that extra real estate where the side mount radiator mess was extracted from.

I'm not sure how well that would work.
Changing pump flow rate does two things: it alters the level of assist, and alters how quickly the pump can provide assist. As in, for the system to work fluid must be pumped into a cylinder, and if the flow rate is low enough it won't be able to keep up. So with the pump running at low flow, you could get a loss of assist if you tried to move the wheel too quickly.
I'm not sure how well that would work.

Some of the older Audi Rally Cars (I think, or maybe it was IMSA) used a traditional hydraulic pump but driven by a belt off the rear drive shaft. Was mounted where the rear seats usually are. If someone was creative, you could do a custom mount on the rear subframe or where the OEM Fuel pump / Battery box is and drive a pump off the rear driveshaft there. It would be susceptible to contamination and moisture might be a problem but its a thought.

wasn't that an alternator? i can not picture a hyd pump in that configuration working well for low speed steering.

What would be trick is to put the alternator on the rear of the engine off that vac pump drive, run an electric water pump and electric PS pump, and forget about accessories on the front

Peter, it was both. They used special diff housing to accomodate mounting provisions.

Doesn't the mr2 pump have a built-in reservoir? If so I'd think the orientation of the pump kinda matters.

Nice pics. I knew I had seen the PS Pump driven off the Driveshaft but couldn't recall exactly how it was setup.

I think I have a solution there using a vr6 PS pump instead of an AC pump to do the jack shaft. You will just need all the tension and rollers from the oem setup. Now that I am back from vacation, this swap is getting finished.
