its like the perfect build.....

i too really like the aluminum sub frame mounts. front end feels tighter in corners and havent noticed any extra "road noise" from my 400-1k miles a week on the Oh and Pa roads/highways

Well not perfect, but I'm beginning to like this car more and more as I drive it. It is a fun fast car with heritage and substance. Everyone has a fast mustang, camaro, Evo, Subie, etc etc etc. LOL

Well I needed to go out and see what my new found boost would do. I was expecting maybe a bit more of a jump from 15 to 23psi, but I have to say it runs well. It's getting to that point where it's beginning to get scary and you need to keep focused. That's fine but it doesn't leave much time to even get a glance at the A/F or fuel map. I need another person to keep an eye out before I inch up anymore. I took the car up the mountain to my favorite cutover figuring the road is fun, but also with all of my barometric cells at 1.00 I knew I wouldn't be compensating any at the high elevation and would if anything be running a bit rich. I wasn't disappointed going up the mountain.

Yea, it's running pretty well. Hank sent me a test while I was on the mountain throwing some ideas out on intercoolers. Right now it seems to be doing pretty well, but then it's 50deg out and even colder up here on the mountain. I know that I am going to have to address it or turn down the boost, but for now it's fun and running strong.

Ok, so my reply to Hank when he talked to me about an intercooler was to say I wasn't sure I needed more intercooler or more than 23psi of boost. Like I said going up the mountain was great with plenty of power about anytime I needed it. Coming down the other side was a different story. :( Looks like Hank spilled the beans!!

So the question for all of you thinkers out there is this: Is it morally right to be upset at getting a ticket of 48 in a 40mph zone when not 1/4 mile before I had touched on 120mph? I was clocked at 58mph, but he wrote it for 48. I told him that I had just crested the summit and probably didn't back off quite a bit, but that it was pretty steep here. Young trooper that had no idea what kind of car I was driving, but apparently could see it was rather sporty. He looked at me and kind of smiled and said, "it's a fun road to drive huh?" It's hard to get to upset seeing as I got to drive my Urq home instead of calling the wife to come and pick me up out of jail. It still kind of put a damper on an otherwise great morning. LOL

After he kindly got my signature, I turned around and decided to look for a turnout in the sun where I could wax the car and enjoy the day.

Sometimes it takes a bit of time to upload to Youtube. You know me....I wouldn't omit something as important as the first pull over in Her Urq. Oh wait, Justin, Jamison, Alex and I got pulled over on New Years eve at about 1100. The guy was so amazed that none of us had been drinking that he just wanted to know what we were doing out on a mostly deserted road and did I know that I only had one head light? I told him yes I knew that, but when I was following him with my brights on I didn't want to be rude and blind him so I switched them to the one low beam. He told us to get it fixed and sent us on our way. I'm sure glad he didn't clock us as we closed the gap while following him before I realized it was a trooper. LOL

On a side note, Im about to call or write someone about the fact that all those State Troopers are wasting their time and my taxpaying dollars cruising around Mt Charleston instead of patrolling our highways where they'd actually be serving and protecting. I got a handful of North Las Vegas Motorcycle Cops in trouble a few years ago. Paced them at 80+ on the 215 where it was 45-55mph 15 miles outside their jurisdiction, got all their plate numbers and called them in for reckless driving. Two days later I got a call from the NLV Police Chief himself assuring me they weren't taking it lightly. This was around the time when the State Trooper ran into the back of the car HWY 15 doing 100mph+ killing a bunch of people while not even in pursuit. Didn't he live? Can't remember...

Maybe some t-shirts, but maybe some other stuff too ;O}

Finally got the new printer up and running over the last couple days. Of course I had to make a couple decals. Hard to tell with this pic but the gold in the wreath on the WRC decal is actually metallic.

Image

For 2011 I designed the Battle Born decal but didn't have the resources to do them, Sean took the file and had one of his contacts make them for us (courtesy of Sean Y). I remade some of the 2011 decals and did some that say 2010 for us veterans.

I can't wait to start reproducing all them ol' Audi Rally decals...

Why I tend to agree, a highway patrol probably saved my childhood friend when he came off his street bike at over 80mph and broke his back, legs and ribs. It was actually that exact same road my dad is filming on(the cross over road) near the 6 mile marker. With no cell service, I was left to rip down the canyon for help and the NHP happened to stumble upon him..

Thats awesome you paced them!! LMAO

Couple build related questions as I work on my '85. Inspired by your progress...
Where did you bring the 3B harness through, driver's side or passenger? I'm using a 200q20v harness but pulling out excess. I am also going to vacuum brakes and it looks like there is room on the driver's side for the harness.
Related: where did you put the ECU? I'm thinking of the storage pocket on driver's side kick panel.
Are you running spacers with the urs4 fuchs?
What front brake setup? I'm considering rs2 adapters, boxster calipers.

Thanks, Chris

I'll see if I can help Chris. On my 84 I brought the 3B harness through on the passenger side, I drilled a new 2in(I'll check if you need an exact measurements) hole on the flat section under the coil mount. I removed the WX harness and put a grommet there. Right now my ECU is laying along the passenger A pillar, but I will eventually put it up on the side of the glovebox in the stock WX ECU location. I kept my AC so it is pretty tight with the harness on the passenger firewall. I routed the harness to the drivers side up under the dash and got it to fit in the cable tray above the steering column. I went for a total factory like install, so I did surgery to the brown harness (removed old WX wires no longer needed) on the drivers side and integrated all the 3B and brown harness wires to the factory fusebox connectors.

I also went to to vacuum brakes, installed the Lewis/034 clutch MC brace and put a bias valve under the brake MC. I found it pretty tight by the booster, especially routing the fuel lines between the IM, the brake booster and the p/s lines to the hydraulic reservoir. It was a pain getting it all to fit.

John, Nice pic in Quattro Quarterly!

I hear what you are saying about 15-23 psi. I have found the same thing, unfortunately I think these turbos/motors really hit their stride at 26-28 psi. So it looks like you have a new goal :)

Jim, how much boost are you running on just 93 pump gas? Right now my tune isn't good enough to safely do much more without getting on a dyno or at the very least getting you or Hank or someone else in the passenger seat to push buttons. I could do a bit more data logging and get it closer I suppose, but 23psi is pretty fast right now. I may do an E85 of say like 30% and work my way up to the high 20s eventually. Right now I have enough of a to do list to keep me busy.

Chris, I think Dave summed it up pretty good except that in my case I am running an 034 IIc cpu with a whole new harness. I pulled the CIS harness back into the cab beneath the glove box and cut everything out except for the switched hot wire coming from the drivers side. This used to power up the OEM ecu, but I used it to trigger a relay feeding a switched terminal strip. I was going to put the IIc behind the glove box with just the USB cable run into the glove box for access, but with keeping the A/C there wasn't enough room before hitting the evaporator coil. I opted to install the IIc in the glove box itself. It's not the ideal place, but is convenient and harness wires would reach from there.

I also pulled most everything that wasn't needed from the drivers side harness and removed them from the fuse/relay box. I kept anything that I figured I might need, but just bundled it up and ran it into the air blower space to deal with later. Going through those wires is on my to do list as I get things like wiper squirters, levels, and such straightened out.

I've been very pleased with the vacume setup for brakes. It's still tight, but doable and less headache and fluids to leak. I worried about having enough vacume, but after driving fairly spirited for a good length of time I no longer worry about it. They do just fine.

Are you running spacers with the urs4 fuchs?

The Fuchs are being run as is....no spacer and that is with 225/45/16. They are close to the steering arms, but dont rub. Sometimes I look at pictures and feel like they should fill out the wells a bit more, but I am lowered quite a bit and have no rubbing issues at all. I haven't even rolled fenders.

What front brake setup? I'm considering rs2 adapters, boxster calipers.

As far as brakes go, I am running G60s in the front and have the slotted rotors and setup from the v8/S4/S6. They do pretty good, but as I keep bumping up boost I'm starting to think more brakes. I have a set of A8 rotors and TT/A4 calipers that I will probably install shortly. Although they won't be the best, I think they will be better than the G60s. The worse part of going that way is the A8 rotors weigh a ton, but should be able to soak up some heat. The best part is they will fit under 16s.

Thanks, all very helpful. I'm removing any 20v wiring that isn't needed from the engine compartment and consolidating where possible. Not running A/C now, but keeping all plumbing in place, so will have same space constraints. I'll have to go through the project build again to see where you cut the firewall.
I have two sets of the 16" fuchs, but also want to keep the option to run the 15" ronals, so that why looking at the boxster brakes. Putting in the vented rear rotors from an urS6 with 200q20v rear calipers and carriers. Still need to source the rotors for the front.
