600+whp 1990 90Q...4"pipe's weren't meant for under here

Ya. They do have quite tiny wheel wells length wise back there. I was originally planning on using some e30 flares, figuring the cars were from the same era so maybe id get lucky. Long story short, it woulda been some work.

If you plan 4" out the back. Lots of hammering lots. Cutting floor. More hammering. Oval-ing tube. Hammering.

no i went 3.5". with the vband housing it was just easier to weld the 3.5 on vs the 4 to the housing.

so with the fresh paint scheme this season i decided that all of the engine bay bits needed to be re powder coated as well. i wanted a lighter color with the jazz blue color the car is going to be, but i didn't want just boring old white or off white. so, almond wrinkle it was.

was it you that was looking for some 4" bends a bit ago?

i have lots of that aluminum pipe/tube and long radius sweeps in 3" and 4" and other sizes of tube as well....

anyways, the wrinkle looks nice but it looks like its gonna be hard to keep clean.

Damnit! I coulda used some of that pipe.

I'll be honest. The wrinkle you can't even tell is wrinkle until you get up on the car. I'll have to see how I like it all done and in the bay. The other wrinkles colors I've seen, red and black, you can really TELL its wrinkle. I assume that's just because they are darker colors though.

You think you want to see it done now? Wait and see the other powdercoat color for some of the smaller engine bay bits, should have it this week. :-)

main larger pieces in the bay will be the almond wrinkle from above. some of the tinier bits, the stainless hardware, etc. will be candy raspberry...

i sprayed this right over the aluminum. the vibrant van box i stripped the anodizing off of it, polished it a bit, wax and grease remover, then the powder. the clamps were clear anodized i think...just sprayed right over those. the bolts i did were stainless and the fuel rail i stripped the old powder, wire wheeled it, then powdered it. they say to chrome powder or silver powder for a base coat with this shit....but i think i like it better just over straight up aluminum.

Ya. The vac box was just billet aluminum like I said that I stripped the ano off of and then took a 3m cookie to it just to get the surface gook off left behind from the ano stripping process. That fuel rail I actually took a wire wheel too then powdered it.

I THINK I'll end up doing the turbo housing this color too once the time comes. Then that'll be it.

looks good man, but how much do you drive the car? Wrinkle coat is hard to keep clean when it's a dark color, I can't imagine the horror of trying to keep that looking good.

so, in the midst of waiting for things to get back to me in one piece after welding has completed...and it being a bit too cold to push the car outside and spray the engine bay yet, i decided i would tackle the idea i had of making a fiberglass dashboard.

i have used fiberglass mat, never, in my life time. it didn't come out perfect, but with some sanding i think it'll be pretty good. its going to get suede flocking on it anyway so it wasn't OVERLY concerned about it coming out butter ass smooth.
