Dan's 1984 UR quattro. Drove it 6' lol

So a few weeks back I get an email from a fellow Audi enthusiast and former rally driver in the mid 80's (factory driver for Mitsubishi) that I met through an ad of his on craigslist about 4 years ago. Long story short... He was selling his 84 quattro that he bought as the second owner in 1990 and wanted me to have first crack at it so it would stay local and in a good home. Needless to say I ended up with the car. It was a no brainer once I went and had a look.

About the car...
One of 65 1984 Quattro's sold in NA.
Tornado Red (repainted about 15 years ago)
79k on the clock
Heated seats. Mostly redone (in original dark brown with correct pleating)
Sport quattro style hood in fiber glass with full understructure and cutouts for injector cooling. Supposed to be from 2bennett.
Real deal Group B A2 rear spoiler that came from a wrecked John Buffum rally car that was bought and parted out by Frank Sprongle. It was cut down and given less rake and a 3'rd brake light added about 15 years ago :( Needs repair work and repaint.
Hybrid k24/26 turbo from Intended Acceleration with matching chip in the ECU.
Wrapped downpipe.
Stock exhaust? Looks kinda big to me but I've heard UR quattros have decent sized exhaust from the factory.
2bennett (Ground Control) coil overs with Billstein shocks. 450lb front, 380lb rear.
Aftermarket Ronal 16" wheels. Originals wheels gone :(
Wheel stud conversion
Wolfsport drilled rotors
Rear bumper tucked
Front bumper is a fiberglass reproduction piece that is a mix of original and A2 according to the previous owner, with fog lights installed instead of more air holes. Its a really well made piece.
Euro 80 headlights.
Custom Griffin 4 row radiator with nicely molded tray on the bottom of the car to help direct airflow through the radiator.
Extra cutout in the front bumper surround for more airflow to the intercooler.
1 pair of NOS door ring decals with the alignment tabs still attached.
Set of factory Manuals.
Original owners manual, warranty packet, and card from the salesman who sold the car.
Originally sold in Anchorage Alaska at a VW/Audi/Porsche Dealership.

There's probably more but that's all I remember for now. The car is incredibly clean top and bottom but needs some love. Carpet is badly faded and shrunk, rear parcel tray carpet comes off if you vacuum it (lol), and the door seals shed a few inches of seal everytime you open and close a door. Also, the car has been sitting for 7 years and not run in 4. Engine and trans were supposedly rebuilt 10k niles ago so those should still be in good working order. I need to go through a few things and then i'll try to fire her up.

The pron...

Sweet! Looks like a good place to start from. What is the rust situation like?

A few bubbles on the passenger side fender about 6 inches form the botton, and a little rust on the bracket that the radiator sits on. That's all I could find. Its super clean underneath. Barely even any surface rust to speak of and the rocker panels and pinch seams are perfectly straight. Whoever worked on this car knew how to properly jack it up.

Wow, very nice! I wish I could find one like this.

As for the exhaust, the UrQ should have a 64mm exhaust from factory, so it looks correct.

The 200 was bought as a running/driving parts car that was smashed in the front and the whole front clip replaced with 20v clip, then it got rear ended pretty good (trunk smashed in and V8 tails destroyed). Interior is in very poor condition and it has like 250k on it. Not worth putting 1 cent into it, but its a good parts car to help keep others on the road.

LOL Aron. You do remember what happened after jesse drove off right?

Jared, come get em before they are gone.

Phil, holding doors for you since you hooked me up on the wheels. Was there anything else you still wanted/needed?

Nice car! It's crazy that so many of these cars sat unused for such long periods of time. Mine sat for something like 18 years before I got it. Glad to see it getting some love. Very interesting front end design too. I'll be looking forward to updates

The only urq that I know of that doesn't do a lot of sitting is my brothers. He DD's his because he can fit 3 of his 4 kids and the wife in it. Has something like 250k miles on it now. Its been a super reliable car for him and actually gets decent mpg's.

Played with it over the last couple weeks. Removed the alarm that would not disarm with the remote, drained the old fuel, replaced the pre filter, filled it up with fresh gas and some fuel system treatment. Still need to get a new fuel filter.

Wouldn't crank over so I checked the signal wire to the starter...power! so out came the mini sledge and gave the starter a good little beating and whadda ya know, she started cranking. Sprayed some parts wash into the intake and boom, she fired to life for like 4 seconds. Cracked open a fuel line to see what was coming up to the fuel head and it was bone dry. Checked power to the fuel pump and that was good when cranking. tapped on the fuel pump but coudnt revive it.

So now I just need to get a new pump and filter, replace some bad vacuum lines, and then see what happens. :)

Good to hear!

Signs of life

Will it be roadworthy before the 4ks8?

I don't know about road worthy, but it will absolutely be running and driving before the "S8K" ;)
