File Sharing....

Post by mushasho »

May I suggest a categorized approach to this section where one could browse files based on ECU along with the obligatory hardware details needed on each config...

Thanks...

Fabulous idea. Needs a disclaimer on trusting somebody else's fingers, but the idea is solid.

Yeah, I agree that it would be very cool to have a tune database, but it most certainly needs a major disclaimer.

Maybe a tuning wiki, too much VEMS overlap?, for warehousing common stuff with example logs/files?

Make it more like a guide than a "download a tune" page.

A mix of both would be ideal. The "download a tune" section along with the "wiki" part would equally have disclaimers. To further provide confidence on the downloaded tune, we should also provide information on who sourced the tune allowing the prospective "downloader" to PM the source directly if further deets are needed... I think it'll further solidify and encourage the 'resoucefulness' among the community...

I love this idea.
I'd really like to take a look at other peoples tunes so I can compare to my own and tweak if I set something wrong or just have it at a non ideal setting.

So everyone likes the idea, we just need the site/db to add files and information. I'm envisioning multiple options here... one is simply to attach a vemslog/vemsconfig file to a post/topic with the appropriate text information on hardware/setup/additional notes. This could be its own subforum and each topic title would be a basic hardware setup, i.e. - street tune: AAN, stock compression, built head, gtx3071

Or we could upload zip files with a text and tune file. Zip files are scary tho rite?

Or we could have a totally separate site, but that seems silly because we have pp.

I think the first option would be easiest to implement and keep going.

Thoughts?

There is already a sticky for this, but it has been locked. I'm guessing because of multiple reasons, the most important of which is that of the liability from a thead of multiple configs with lots of different tunes open to anyone has the possibility of someone uploading the wrong info and causing damage to their engine, whether quickly or down the road. That, or intellectual property concerns, etc. Why the thread is locked is for Ed, Marc or Hank to answer...

That being said, I've always liked the idea of this and think your first option is the best, in a sticky here on PP. Hardware set up and a .vemslog file would be the basic info necessary, in addition to other info like driving/running notes, atmospheric conditions like environment(desert, humid/rainy, high altitude, winter) would also be a plus. People do some similar stuff on the vemswiki, but it's WWWWAAAAYYYY less organized there. It would be nice to this happen. To hell with the intellectual property bit, IMO, we all can learn from each other with this.

I like the idea of everyone having their own topic in a subforum. That way things don't get jumbled and tunes are easier to browse through and search for.

Note: All the configs I have are for 850cc's injectors set at 4 bar.

I am seriously considering VEMS for my 200 in the near future. In preparing for the upgrade, I'm looking for 3b with distributor configs. NE1?

for 3b, you can use any of these AAN configs, just change the ignition outputs to all be the same channel (usually stepper D). they are otherwise the same. also try and keep dwell modest since you are firing 5 times instead of one per cylinder. usually we set 3b dwell base to around 2ms with a 5 extension setting.

I would be into this too!! Not so much to upload others files but just to see how they're doing things differently or see what I can learn as I tweak things on my own.

Maybe somebody here can help me.... I'm looking to compare my idle stabilizer settings to someone else's on a 3B or AAN with 7a cams (and optionally an aluminum flywheel). Greatly appreciated! Still newish to vems

Would you guys be interested in an offsite solution? Would be basically a dedicated site for posting configs and details for various cars/engines and ecus like vems, megasquirt and other popular ones where it's free to share configs.

Um yes but I think possibly knowing the moderator and putting a name and face to them may ease trusting pains for some users. Basically, if it's John from Iowa (who!?) Then I'm out... at least on here we can have some small guarantee we aren't dowe loading a Trojan from John with 1 post count.

Hmm, good point, files would be limited to config extensions so no trojans for sure, totally safe in that aspect.

Put up a new alpha site (uses a 00's style layout with some updated free scripts). Lets users rate the file and comment on it, file posted can have users facebook, twitter, instagram and project url (if user/poster enters those profile details). Maybe it helps trusting pains and makes it a bit more personal. Still, files are at user's discretion and knock detection is a must if you're changing the ignition maps.

It's alpha and had to fix allot of script bugs, so might still be errors, it's missing a logo, etc. Url is http://enginetunedb.com Right now posted files are limited to .vemscfg, .msq, .e35, .e21, .cal

lmk if you guys have comments, suggestions, want more detail fields. I posted a random file i had downloaded a while ago as an example (the info/details is completely off).
