Derracudas zermatt 20vt,6spd, 351awhp - July 4th drive vid

Post by derracuda »

well folks.... after my episode with the 86 zermatt car from NC with the paint issues and whatnot, and then my issue with not being able to stop for blazers in front of me, i decided to console myself with buying the car i originally wanted before going to NC.... a very clean, very nice 4kq, a rival to my alpine car, with which to perform a 20vt conversion.

this one comes with all the documentation.... the dealer pamphlet, the window sticker, original window sticker, you name it. the gentleman i got it from, got it from his father, so it's a 2 owner car, VERY clean inside and out. some dings and chips, but i'm going to employ a good paintless dent removal service to take car of the dings, and i have a friend who does professional paint touchups that i'll have fix the chips.

the plan for this car is what i wanted to do with the zermatt 86 from NC....

91' 3B 20vt engine, all stock engine management, OEM style conversion for daily driver status.

Swap transmission out and install an 89' 20v 200 trans with torsen center and 3:89 final drive, along with the UR rear diff from my alpine car with matching 3:89 gears.

the rebuilt subframes out of my alpine car will go in it. suspension is going to be mild. i'm thinking some cut CQ springs for stiff rate, but i don't want to lift the car, nor do i want to lower it much.

5lug swap using Martin Pajak's recipe of parts, which will be listed here.

I got it in LA, which required an all day drive from here in sacramento, 862 miles round trip, on about 2-3 hours of sleep :P i was toast last night when i got home. the only issue i had with the car is the coolant fan isn't kicking on, so i had to maintain speed in order for it to cool properly :P other than that, she drives beautifully.

now for :pics: :D

Wow that's a mega clean car!

I've just got my first Audi, a 1985 90 (4000) Quattro in Helios Blue. It's not as clean as this but is a hoot to drive and sounds great :bump:

Oh... if you happen to be taking the cruise control off... I'd be very interested :D

Those brochures are cool, Ive got a ton of them from various US and Euro models (15 or so). I particularly like the CQ media packet with factory photoz :D.

Good pictures!

i found an inflation rate calculator and the car cost of $20,225 in 1985 would cost $34,652.34 in today's money :)

plans currently are to finish the 20vt conversion on this car so i can put it into DD service and then do a 20vt conversion on the one from NC, and then sell it. that way the car will hopefully get special treatment and live longer instead of be turned into a winter special and get beat to death in the snow.

So what did you do with the car from NC?
I would keep the orange lights just so you follow through with the OEM+ theme.

the NC car is at home in OR and i'm driving it up there until this one is done and ready for service.

Nice buy Derek. It's a shame you bought the one in NC, but at least you have that lifetime of an experience now!

You suck!! :-) Congrats on the purchase, looks wicked!

I am still looking for a nice 4kq.. but an '84.. just like in that Road & Track test.
I found one in Colorado but it has a replacement door and a ton of paint chips. :( So far that looks like the only candidate for my 20vt swap.

Let me know if you find one and pass son it..

Chris S apparantly has one for sale but I've been waiting for pics for a month now..

Cheers

Man, that clean a car is making me *hate* (from jelousy!) California.

I swear, that car looks like it's brand new! (Well, except for what looks like a ripped rear tierod end boot on the driver's side).

Here in Ontario, most 4kq's are well on their way to being a rust bucket. :(

Hi!

You want to know, what´s wrong with the dash-pic?

The car tells you to upshift at 1k revs.

greets :-)
