Brandon's B5 07K track build!

Hey everybody! I'm wanting to build fairly decent track car and weekend street warrior. I'm not looking to be fast, just fun!

I bought a '99 A4 18.TQM last year with 200k miles. Finally, at 214K mile the sludge was just to much and I threw a rod. I loved the hell out of that car. Still do. I started gathering things to build a BT 1.8T but I then purchased an UrS4 and lost interest. About two weeks after driving the S4 and getting bit by the i5 love bug I wanted to push the S4 more but I also didn't want to damage it. So I decided to fix the A4. Since theres a million of them incase I damage or break something. I was looking into doing a AAN swap but that was just a no go. Then somebody turned me onto the 07K. Did some research and figured that will be the way I go.

So now I have a 70k miles 07K from an 06 Beetle sitting in the garage. I have my B5. Whats stopping me from atleast removing the old motor and other things? I lost the key. Ordered a new key and picked it up today from Audi. $95 for a basic key. Good lord.

Anyways here are my plans:

Turbo'd on stock bottom end. ~300awhp
GT28R running somewhere in the teens. I already have the turbo. I'm trying to find a T25 exhaust manifold but haven't had any luck yet.
4:1 center diff. Purchased but waiting to be shipped.
Suspension. Not sure what setup yet.
Standalone - also unsure of setup
Trans will be the original 01A that was mated to the 1.8T. Since I'm not going to be drag racing or pushing an insane amount of power.
Stage 2 clutch
completely gutted and caged

I still need to source a B5 2.8/2.7TT subframe. I have a C5 A6 2.7TT that I'm parting out and people tell me that the subframe is the same at the B5 S4. I can't find any information to back that up so I'm going to match them up once I get the motor and trans out of the 1.8T.

The two main things I'm working on purchasing are the motor mounts and the oil pan from Hank. Once I get those and they are in then I can set the motor and trans in and secure it.

I'm open for questions, suggestions, and anything else!

Once this is done, then my UrS4 gets new bottom end and much bigger turbo!

I'm parting out a 98 A4 2.8FWD and a 01 A6 2.7TT tiptronic is anybody needs parts. Gotta fund my build! lol

sounds like a cool project, i really would like to get a 07K with a forged crank for myself too.
idk about putting the 07K into a B5, but i know this: "07K budget turbo" is a no go in the same sentence .

Cool project, hope to see some updates in the future.

As far as suspension for a car intended to do track duty, I'd seriously consider KW v2 or v3 or better. That would be one area I wouldn't cheap out on. If you have the coin, Ohlins cannot be beat.

Standalone, you can find a lot of community support with VEMS. MaxxECU seems to be gaining a lot of ground, but mostly on the urI5 motors and across the pond in general so there won't be much in the way of crowd sourcing tunes and help.

Yeah. Since its staying stock bottom end it will be more budget friendly lol...

Maybe i should have just named it that.

Thanks for the suggestion. VEMS will more then likely be the way I go honestly. I'm still searching for the right suspension. The KW looks promising.

As for updates, I'm having some shoulder issues right now. I gotta go back to the doctor Tuesday for some results. Hopefully i don't have to have surgery because then I will be down for 6 months

Question for those who know the 07K.

I don't plan on breaking into the motor besides replacing timing chain stuff and oil pan. I'm going to take it that there isn't a T25 exhaust manifold. C2 has a T3 manifold. What would be a good turbo for a stock bottom end motor?

Small EFR like a 6258 or 6758 would be my first choice.

You have 2 clear options with EM.
1. Get the C2 T3 EM and fab up or buy a T3 to T25 adapter.
2. Get a EM with T25 flange from Hank.

Wrt turbo, what's wrong with the GT28R? You will have a torquey motor with this.

gt28r is a nice size for a 1.8. You could build one of those for cheap too....or use the gt28r on a stock 1.8 with a suitable tune and be driving next week.

I'm not to worried about saving some money or downtime. This is a project I can take my time on. I love the B5 platform and love the I5 sound. So I wanted to combine the two.

As far as the GT28R, I'm not stuck to it. I have it but can always sell it.

My UrS4 will keep me pretty happy until the B5 is done.
