AAN crank preference
AAN crank preference
I'm building an AAN with an optimistic goal of 500-600 hp. I have both the AAN crank and the 7A crank that came out of the CQ that the AAN will be going into. They're both very similar but the most significant difference I see is that the AAN has a single oil hole on each bearing journal while the 7A has a cross-drilled oil hole that results in two oil holes (7A had grooved bearing shells). The AAN oil hole is slightly larger and sort of radiused. I'll have both magnafluxed and measured and if all other things are equal, which crank would be preferable?

Re: AAN crank preference
Huh, I've never heard those differences discussed before. Honestly, for 5-600HP either one will work fine. If you were going to double those numbers, I'd say there could be a discussion on strength vs added oiling. Use the one that is in the best shape.
