Well, that's one way to quickly break in the new rings, bearings and guides.
It should be fine. :-)

It's funny how the embarassing storys come out of hiding now! I've got an amusing one.
A few years back when I was only 16 (younger and more stupid) I removed my AC and took everything off I could. I was removing the snubber mount and in the process of taking a long bolt out of the back, my dad called me in for dinner. Well a few weeks later I started up my car and headed into town to go to a highschool football game and a light came on. Well, I had a leaky overflow tank so I figured it was just my low coolant light like always. Then it started buzzing at me

. After a closer inspection I saw it was some weird looking early 1900's oil can. Oh well I drove to the game anyway. After I got there and turned off the motor the engine stopped... quick. I got out and check under the car and there was oil ALL over!
Anyway to keep the story semi-shorter. It turned out that that long bolt I mentioned earlier, over a period of a few weeks, shimmied back and somehow danced it's way over my oil filter and took a seat on the positive starter terminal thus blowing a dandy of a hole in the side of the oil filter.
After discovering this, I put on a new oil filter, put in new oil, dealt with the lifter chatter for a few days, and I've been driving the car 4 years since and she's still running just the same.
I also have a dandy story my dad did but I'm worried if I write anymore that no one will read anything... I know I wouldn't.

Ha, no I meant I was trying to keep my story short. I could have gone into a little more detail on how I found out what happened and so on.
Perhaps now that I've started a new post I'll share my dad's absent minded experience.
Initial note: My dad isn't exactly a handyman. You'll know full well after this little anecdote.
My dad had a Subaru I believe that wanted to change the oil. Well, instead of pulling the oil plug, he drained the transmission fluid... :bashtard:.... and then "filled" the engine with more oil....... :bashtard: :bashtard:
He drove like this for who knows how long with no trans fluid and twice as much motor oil until finally either a light came on or the trans started making strange noises. I'm not sure which came first. I'd ask him but I'm sure he doesn't like talking about this story, nor does he like me telling people.... oops.

Ive got a funny and short story. In high school I knew this kid who had an old Bronco, a real shitbox. He said he changed the oil, but afterwards when he drove it the engine started to knock and it stopped. So I asked him how he changed the oil. He said he drained the oil then ran however many quarts of oil through without putting the drain plug back on. WTF was he thinking? So, in reality he ran quarts of oil just in and out of the crankcase and then put the drainplug back on, and killed the motor.
Some people should not be allowed to do the simplest maintinence on anything.

then i started it.. oil light out, no weird noises.. whew.... lets hope it stays that way for a long time to come
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-wzU7QdB88in other news, i got the alternator on and hooked up

finally got to the wastegate tended to so the wiz doesn't have a fit

Man that wastegate polished up nice! You just use a wheel on that top? FYI I've got a broken pan with a good side tank if you want to make your spare pan whole again.

thanks guys
i did use a wheel to polish up my bits and pieces, it works really good

i'll have an update a little later tonight or tomorrow morning on the wiring and stuff i've been wrapping up

ok! wiring update.... kind of a pain to route everything and do it nicely, but here's my attempt.
started off like this...

then progressed to this..

routed the main potion of the harness up over the trans tunneland looped in with the factory wires through the releaseable zipties. i also ran my harness up behind the main 4kq harness/rats nest where there's a little extra space and so that the fuses coming out of the harness reach the fuse panel properly.

i lifted the fuse panel out so i could access the side strip of fuses..

i used a special tool for removing terminals..

so i could snap them into the stock 4kq fuse strip...

had to do 4 in all so that it looks like factory in the fuse box..

shot from underneath with them in place..

i also used a relay to power up the power sources to the ecu and ran it through this fuse...

...which slides into the stock relay panel under the dash and sits right above the relay i used for the ecu powering duties(third hole in from the bottom left)..

that's a buttoned up look at the harness
i also spent time on running through the cruise control system to see if i could find anything wrong with it since it didn't work when i bought it, and it's all apart now

found out first, that both pedal switches needed orings, then that the main column switch isn't sending power to the pedal switches.
last thing i worked on was the rear diff lock setup from the 200. i mounted the box in the center console next to the cruise control box.

i'm going on my gut here cause i didn't feel like looking it up in the manual, but it would seem that the 200 and the 4kq uses the same color coding on the vacuum lines for the rear diff lock... blue and yellow

so once the lock box was mounted i just cut and looped the rubber hoses to the plastic lines in the center console..

i deleted the front lock lines as well since i don't think i'll be going back...
last thing i did was install my short shifter from the white car...

more to come today!

Sweet action. Where did you get that cool tool for removing the pins from the connectors? I could use something like that.

I'm pretty sure Pep Boys and such offer those tools inexpensively.

no, i haven't driven it yet, aside from pulling it forward the other night into the parking space it's in right now. i figure once it's together i'll have plenty of seat time, so i'd really like to get everything tended to and installed that i want to and do it right. once it's together you know how hard it is to take it all back apart for something

i got the gauge panel installed, wired up the volt meter, oil temp, and oil pressure.. which, using the 200 oil pressure sender works perfectly as one wire is for the gauge, and the other is for the oil pressure drop warning that the 4kq has the same of... so it's all bolt in and performs the same functions 8)
i've almost got the rear diff lock finished, and then i gotta figure out why the ecu sometimes buzzes at me

it also stays warm when the key and power is cut off to it, any ideas?
this is what i'm left with tonight. you can see the diff lock switch mounted in the drivers kick panel, and all the gauges light up and work properly. i'm pleased
