Derek you should warm the black parts of the bumpers a bit with a paint dryer (if thats the correct name) to make the parts uhm black again :-)

doug- the wheels are the 15x7.5 BBS's, but they only have 205/55/15's. very wide profile tire though (kumho ASX's).

the steering arms... i still have the cardboard profile ;)

and as for the feel... i dunno... i guess you missed the part about me not finishing them up yet and they aren't installed... there'd be pics if i did ;)

7x15 fuch's just aren't gonna cut the width i want. my buddy is gonna cut me a deal on his 235/40/17 kumho SPT's and i'll throw them on the 8" A8 rims i already have. that'll get me a considerable amount of grip right there.

as for the black parts.. yeah, i know.. i didn't even wash the car before i went out. we've had a bunch of nasty storm weather and the car's been sitting outside. and since the detail, i haven't had a chance to hit the black stuff with any restoring products.... been kinda busy with the A6 8). it'll get done though, don't worry :)

not all the seams will be like that as some of the bolsters and panels on the recaro seats are separated by a gap, but the perforated red and the alcantara are nice! i gotta figure out how to get some black in the mix though i think.

Derek, i know a thing or two about sewing.
heres a quick tip, use chalk to make straight stitch lines.
best part is that it cleans up easy.

good to see her being enjoyed :D.....

so now after you have the 01e in the a6 and you get used to the quick gearing, you're gonna have to do it to the 4k, not to mention with addition of the little ball bearing friend you acquired------if it is for that car

she looks amazing too

thanks for the tip Corey, but i've already sewn a few things before ;) this was just a test on the sample pieces that i had been sent, so free handing it was all good 8)

back in CA for the week and finished up the front struts yesterday...

Image

i cut the spring seats flush with the steering arms for clearance as well...
Image

and to make sure that the ring stays in place i put a tack weld in the back, and ground a notch in the ring to make sure it stays there.
Image

they're melted in there guud. i accidentally got one installed the wrong way and had to spend a while carefully grinding the edges back and then put it in the vice and went at it with a hammer and punch... got it though!

i'm excited to put these in and see how well they work 8) i need to make a bar for locking the steering at the exact center of it's range so that i can adjust each steering arm length perfectly. i'm thinking about installing a steering damper as well since i have the brackets and what not from a 90q.

also, all my materials for the interior showed up, so i'll be looking to start on that sometime soon as well as it's very cold outside at home and no fun to work in :(

Yea working in the cold sucks. Do you have a heated garage? I have a heater in mine, but its not hooked up :( Nice work as usual

we have only a propane heater for now. eventually the heated floor will get hooked up... :frustrated:

How did you get the original spring perches off and have such nice and smooth strut tubes? I remember being pretty damn careful with my grinder smoothing out the original welds, but man your's looks like there never was original spring perches.

radiant heat im assuming for the floor......boy that would be nice.....

#1. grinding carefully... if you hold the grinding wheel parallel with the tube, you can sort of guarantee not digging into the tube much.

#B. i did dig into the tub a couple times :P i just zapped it with the welder and then ground them smooth.

if i had a lathe or something i could probably machine them off real nicely, but i've built everything by hand here.

Hey Derek,

do you have any detailed pictures or diagrams for your intake/airbox setup? I can't really tell how it all fits together.

Keep up the good work

welll..... hmmm. i just used the stock MAF hose, MAF, and got an air filter with a 3" inlet hole in it and clamped that to the MAF...

as for the alu, i just freehanded it using cardboard for the initial size.

i've actually only put about 300 miles on it :o since i've got the A6 on the road, i've been a little slow at doing some of the extra stuff on it that i'd like to get done.

i got the new struts in place... and boy do they feel great!! turn in is nice, and there comes a certain point when they seem to turn more than the input, but that's on a fairly tight corner where it's wanted, but normal turns it feels fine. i can take a 90 degree 15mph corner at 25mph with my hands at 9&3 on the steering wheel and not take them off for a second grab to stay in my lane. i'm_very_glad i did this... so far :P

it's also nice not to have the bump steer anymore since i put the steering arm height back where they belong.
